Minotaur Financial was founded in 1990 with the purpose of creating software tools to allow financial executives to make informed strategic decisions. Minotaur's intellectual base in finance and strategy base is rooted in Marakon Associates' VBM (Value-Based Management) framework, a shareholder-value methodology similar to Stern Stewart's EVA theory. In twelve years Minotaur has worked with such clients as Pacific Telesis Group (now SBC Communications), Nextel Communications, and Vodafone (Verizon Wireless in the U.S.) as well as numerous venture capital firms and their startups.
About David Brode Hi, I'm David Brode. Currently, I work with large corporations and VCs and their current and future portfolio companies. During the dotcom boom years I focused on helping telecom service startups raise venture capital money and create the operational systems needed to manage the company. For much of the 1990s I consulted to the wireless carriers such as PacTel Cellular and Bell Atlantic/NYNEX Mobile (now part of Verizon) and Nextel Communications in Corporate Development / M&A, strategic planning, budgeting, and financial reporting.
Before forming Minotaur Financial in 1990, I worked in San Francisco (and Melbourne, Australia) for Marakon Associates, a consulting firm which works for the largest global companies to help them maximize long-term value. At Marakon, I held two positions as both a consulting Analyst and as the office's Systems Manager. And with Minotaur I'm still living with a foot in finance and a foot in technology. I graduated from the University of Michigan with Honors in Economics and Philosophy. I've worked with spreadsheets since Lotus 1-2-3 version 1A back in 1983 and have used every Microsoft Excel version since 1.5 in 1988. I'm constantly refining my techniques, not just to give accurate information, but to find the best way to communicate complex financial analysis in a simple way.
